We will ensure Abians are safe from Covid-19, says Gov. Ikpeazu

Governor Okezie has assured Abia people and residents of his preparedness and determination to ensure they are safe from the dreaded Corona virus.

The Governor gave the assurance while briefing with journalists in Goverment House, Umuahia upon his return to the State from Australia, where he went to negotiate scholarship placements for Abia children. He enjoined Abia people and residents to adhere strictly to the advice and guidlines provided by medical experts on how to guard against  contracting the  deadly disease, including; regular and proper hand-washing, use of sanitizer, avoid hand-shake, avoid crowded places among others.

According to him,Corona virus is not a death sentence but an ailment that requires community effort to deal with. He said that Abia has no case of  the virus and expressed the hope that together, Abia will be among States that will remain free and survive the scourge.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu used the opportunity to announce the suspension of the forthcoming Convocation of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) as well as immediate closure of the institution. He equally announced a provision of 
10 million naira to ensure tutorials and teachings in the school holds online. He further directed all public and private schools in the State to conclude their exams and  vacate on or before 30th of this month.

Governor Ikpeazu who said that Abia is not panicking about the pandemic informed that the State has  two functional isolation centres at FMC,Umuahia and  ABSUTH with a third centre for Abia North billed to be opened soon.

The Governor had earlier inspected the Tele-health centre, where the State goverment provided for patients to call from time to time to get medical attention.
