This morning, the atmosphere is still indeterminate at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), the church where one of the buildings in the expansive compound collapsed yesterday.

Even though there is mass movement of people seen around the complex, not much is happening at the moment. While a large crowd of curious onlookers are seen milling around outside the complex, and trying to pick up one information or the other on the incident; others hang around in groups, sharing information and ideas together.

Scores were reported dead yesterday with even a greater number wounded, when a building collapsed in the premises of the world-famous church that is located at Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos State.

As at yesterday night, about 15 were still being rescued. The building which collapsed at about 1pm is said to have housed nothing less than 70 persons as at the time of the accident. Over 15 bodies were evacuated from the scene of the collapsed building which is located inside the church premises, which serves as a guest house for foreigners that visit the church.

Report had it that the building was originally a 2 storey building which was later raised to 5 stories. Residents said the raising of the 2storey building to an additional 3, with the additional weight, could be the reason why the building collapsed.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, Adeboayo confirmed the recovery of the dead bodies, adding that rescue operations were still ongoing to evacuate all the injured persons.

Efforts made by media men to access the premises were aborted by the church security agents, and Senior Pastor of the church, Temitope Joshua, could not be reached for comments on the mishap.
