Abia state to benefit from RAMP project

The task-team of Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project(RAMP), a project supported by the World Bank, French Development Agency and Agricultural Development Bank has confirmed that Abia State has met all the criteria needed for the project to be carried out in the State.

This was disclosed by Ahmed Olotaji, the Task Team leader, representing World Bank in the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project(RAMP).

Olataji made this known on Tuesday, when his team paid a working visit to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the Government House, Umuahia.

He said the essence of the project was to provide access for rural dwellers and link the famers to cities where they can market their produce to greater demands, adding that it is the Federal Ministry of Finance that would disburse the funds to the States concerned at the appropriate time.

The Task Team leader informed that they had visited about 5 Local Government Areas in the State and saw areas of needs of those LGAs.

He said the State has paid the counterpart fund and expressed happiness over the level of preparation by the the State. He thanked the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for giving them audience and all the support needed.RAMP Abia State

In a reaction, the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu expressed joy for the thoroughness of the plan and requested them to accelerate the process so as to enable the State benefit from it as soon as possible. He said the State would collaborate with the team . He also promised not to interfere with the funds made for the projects.RAMP Abia state

He believes the project would work, especially, as the team was leveraging what the State has on ground, stressing that agriculture is one of the pillars of development of his administration.

The Governor, who was excited in receiving the team said the Local Government Areas the team visited were very strategic.
