Some commercial banks in Nigeria are leading the fight against Ebola outbreak in the country as they introduce public hand-washing at point of entrance to their branches across the country and other measures.

However, Access Bank appears to be among few banks leading the pack in the Aba axis of Abia State. Recently, Factnews went round the city to see how it’s widely publicized preventive method of creating public hand-washing units in public institutions and other measures were being handled. Investigations showed that most banks have actually not done much except introduction of hand-gloves and nose mask for their staffs.

But Access bank has introduced hand-washing as well temperature tests at the point of entrance. However, a very senior official at the Eziukwu Road in Aba North, who interacted with Factnews, refused to be named in the report as there was no clearance from their headquarters in Abuja for them to grant interviews. But some staff who spoke on condition of anonymity said the same exercise being done in their branch was also being in other branches across the nation-wide.

A customer, Daniel Ugochukwu, who was seen washing at the point before entering the bank expressed satisfaction over the development, stressing that it increases his confidence in the banking. He said the development meant the bank was thinking of the welfare of its customers; and also that nobody stood any risk of contracting a disease by making use of the same door handle everyone uses.

He advised other bankers and banking institutions to emulate the bank and engage same preventive measure for their staffs and customers to ensure that Ebola spread was totally checked.
