Ohafia Youth Summit: Skill Acquisition Critical To Self Development, Unemployment reduction ~ Ukiwe

Ohafia Local government chairman, Dr. Okorafor Ukiwe has said that empowering youths with skills remains a solution to reducing unemployment in the council, and critical to self development.
Ukiwe stated this at the council headquarters while delivering during the Flag-off ceremony of the Ohafia Youth Summit and Skill Acquisition Project with the theme: Our Future; Your Security.
Ukiwe emphasized that as an effective measure in tackling unemployment, his administration is committed to uplifting the livelihood of the People of Ohafia.
He said the programs lined up to help the youths acquire skills in Garment, Shoemaking, Building, Info-tech/ICT, Cinematography, Agriculture (Fishery, Poultry, food Processing, Metalwork (Welding), Auto-Mobile, Fashion and Designing, Fabrications, Barbing, Cosmetology, and Stylist, Solar-Tech, Aluminum work, upon completion, will help equip the youths and make them gainfully engaged and useful to the society.
Ukiwe used the opportunity to thank the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu PhD, for urgently funding the project in the good interest and economic growth of the youths.
According to the LG Boss, the project will help curb incidences of crimes, criminality, banditry, etc, prevalent in the society.
In his speech, the NDLEA Director in Ohafia Mr Aguma Rose, called on Youths to shun drugs, substance abuse and other vices, in order to be able to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the state.
In his presentation, the CEO PIK Natural Spring, producers of PIK Table Water, Hon. Paul Kalu urged the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to better their lives. According to him, in a society faced with high rate of unemployment, with minimal or non availability of white collar job, entrepreneurship seems to be the only way for the teaming youths to get away from the clog of unemployment.
In her address, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mrs. Blessing Ogonna Iroha, urged the participants to maximize the opportunity presented to them. According to her, only those who have something to offer the society can contribute to it's growth.
The empowerment project has been phased into four parts, the Flag-off phase and a workshop to provide information and opportunity to exchange ideas, mentor and impact. The Second phase will focus on group designation based on individual choice of vocation where each will be trained for a period of between six and twelve months.
The third phase will be the empowerment of participants with material equipment and Cash to help them start up their business while the final phase will will monitor the progress of the established businesses, for evaluation and impact assessment. Also, the project will provide business management, training, & credit loan support for the thriving SMEs that the project would have birthed.
