A set of triplets born to Mr Godswill Echenim have been detained at Group Christian Medical Centre Asaba, Delta State over their parents inability to pay the hospital bills.

The babies which were born prematurely through a caesarean section in July this year can not be taken home with their mother because the medical bills of N723,100.00 have not been paid.

Lamenting, their father Mr Echenim who is a tailor and hails from Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government of Delta State, said that he was forced to take his wife to the private clinic due to the long strike of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA). He had registered his wife at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba before the doctors went home.

"The kids were delivered through CS and where taken to the incubator where they stayed for over a month before their discharge with a bill of N723,100 and more bills are coming because we are still here". He went on, "we have also spent over N60,000 on the nurse who helps to take care of them at night".

He revealed that the triplets are his first set of children after getting married to his wife about five years ago. His wife can not help too because she has been jobless since graduation from Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma.

He appealed to the Government, Non-Governmental Organisations as well as public spirited individuals to come to their aid in offsetting the hospitals bills.

Meanwhile, he is already finding it difficult to buy infant formular and diapers for the three babies. "I have started buying food for them and they take a full can for only three days. A pack of N1500 pampers takes them for only three days too. This is beside the drugs I buy. It is just too much for us. We need help from the public".
