Latest reports reveal that 70 percent of Africa’s telecommunications subscription is controlled by Nigeria, leaving the nation as the largest telecoms market in the continent.

Chief executive officer of NTEL, Kamar Abass who disclosed this said that Nigeria has over 150 million active mobile subscribers, noting that the voice market has significantly improved in Nigeria.

Abass explained that more needs to be done to develop the data segment.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has approved a broadband plan of 2013-2018, aimed at deepening broadband penetration by 30 percent from six percent in 2013.

Broadband penetration is currently at 10 percent contributing 11 percent to the National Gross Domestic product, with a 25 percent target contribution in the next 10 years.
