The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said that troops have “successfully recovered”  three vehicles belonging to the Nigerian Police that were earlier carted away by Boko Haram terrorists when the insurgents ambushed the convoy of the Borno state Governor, Umara Zulum.

Coordinator Defence Media Operation, Maj. Gen, John Enenche disclosed this in a statement weekend.

Enenche also said one gun truck belonging to the terrorists was also captured during the hot pursuit the troops engaged on the insurgents after the attack.

The governor’s convoy comprising the military, Nigeria Police Force and Civilian Joint Task Force was ambushed on Friday by the terrorists at Barwati village, while on their way to Baga, a community in Borno state along the Lake Chad, to welcome some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) due to return to their community.

He said a total of 18 lives,  including four soldiers, 10 Policemen and four civilians we’re lost during the “sad incident. “

According to him, “the casualties recorded were as a result of the explosive from the multiple improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on the road by the terrorists.”

Enenche said the Nigerian Army had since deployed bomb and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) disposal teams to ensure effective route scanning and clearance to forestall future occurrence.
