Abia Assembly Plenary for Tuesday, July 7, 2020

The House commenced sitting by adopting the Votes and Proceedings of Monday, 6th July, 2020 as a working document of the House.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, read a letter from the Office of the Auditor General of Abia State on the audited financial report of the Abia State Government for the year ending 31st December, 2019.
MATTER OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE
Hon Aaron Uzosike representing Aba North State Constituency brought to the attention of the House the deplorable state of Enugu - Port Harcourt Expressway, more specifically the Ariaria axis which falls within Aba North State Constituency.
He said people could no longer move freely because of the traffic congestion caused by the bad spots of the road.
"Mr Speaker, the most worrisome is that armed robbers and kidnappers are now using that spot to rob and kidnap unsuspecting members of the public"
PRAYERS:
That the State Ministry of Works undertake a palliative work of the spot.
After contributions by Lawmakers, the House resolved as follows:
RESOLUTION:
Call on the Federal Controller of Works in Abia State to grant permission to Arab Contractors handling the Enugu - Port Harcourt Expressway to go back to site since the Federal Government has lifted the ban on inter State movement.
ORDER PAPER:
H.A.B 19: The Abia State Physical Planning and Infrastructural Development Fund Law (Amendment No.4) Bill 2020 sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon Solomon Akpulonu.
H.A.B. 20: The Abia State Board of Internal Revenue Law (Amendment No.3) Bill 2020.
In leading the debate, the Majority Leader, Hon Solomon Akpulonu, said the Bill sought to strengthen the Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development Fund( PPIDF) for optimal delivery.
He called for support from Members of the House to enable the two Bills scale through.
However, the Bills were stepped down to be considered for another Legislative Day.
ADJOURNMENT.
With the Motion of the Majority Leader, the House adjourned Plenary to resume back on Wednesday, 8th July, 2020.
