New Year Inferno; Traders at Timber Market Umuahia Count Losses

Traders at the the Wood and Machine section of the  popular Timber, Umuahia are currently counting their losses in the New Year. 

This followed an inferno that gutted down over fifty shops and forty eight wood cutting machines with goods worth millions of naira lost.

The incident according to the Chairman of the market, Ndubuisi Nwaogu and his Wood and Section counterpart, Ernest Onyenweaku said the incident occurred at about 1:58pm on January 1st, 2020.

The section of the market was totally gutted by what could be described as a mystery fire.
Though efforts were made made the state fire service to ensure the fire was put out proved aborted as the woods turned to dust and machines to scraps.

They appealed to the state government and other well meaning Nigerians to quickly come to their aid as their means of livelihood have been brought to a halt.

The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Cosmas Ndukwe who was accompanied by the member representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Chukwudi Apugo for an on the spot assessment of the market expressed sadness at the incident which he described as "tearful".

He assured of the state government's commitment to alleviate the plight of those affected and also called on well meaning Nigerians to please come to the aid of the victims.

A total of 53 shops and 43 machines were affected while gooda worth millions of naira lost.
