Real politics not played on social media, Keyamo tells ‘Twitter Senators’

Nigeria’s Minister of State and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has advised ‘Twitter senators’, who lost in their bid to return to the red chamber.
Though Keyamo was silent on the names of senators, Dino Melaye and Shehu Sani are some of the senators who are active on Twitter and other social media platforms.
Keyamo gave the advice via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.
Melaye, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, was defeated by Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress with 88,373 votes against his 62,133 votes in the Kogi rerun election in November.
Sani was defeated by Senator Sani Uba also of the APC in Kaduna Central.
“Have you noticed that all Twitter Senators are finally out of the Upper Chambers? It tells us that the world of real politics in Africa is not yet played on social media.
“Social media has not had a substantial impact on our politics. Real politics is different from social media,” he tweeted.
