Abia to Issue Identification number to Keke Operators

The state government in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport will today embark on issuance of identification numbers to tricycle operators in the state for easy identification of the operators
The Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu disclosed this during a meeting with the three umbrella associations of the tricycle operators- Abia state tricycle operators association (ASATOA), Tricycle Operators Association of Nigeria ( TOAN) and Abia State Tricycle Riders Welfare Association ( TRIWA at government house, Umuahia, cautioned the three associations to stop the supremacy fight as government has the absolute right and power to recognise any association or union that will enhance its objective for the people.
Sir Oko Chukwu directed them to go home and mobilise their members for the success of the exercise and warned that government will not spare any operator found to engage or use his keke to perpetrate crimes, maintaining that the identification number will help to match every operator with his tricycle for easy apprehension.
The Deputy Governor further enjoined them to assist government in its efforts to enhance revenue generation to meet its development activities.
In their separate remarks, the state chairman of Tricycle Operators Association of Nigeria, ( TOAN),Comrade Ekeleme Kingsley and Executive Legal Adviser of ATRIWA,Mr. St Moses Ogbonna Esq thanked the state government for recognizing their various Unions and promised to assist government in its efforts in checking activities of those using keke to rob the masses as well as help boost the revenue generation of the state.
The commissioner for Transport, Chief Kelechi Nwaohamuo,the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr ACB Agbazuere, top government officials and other stakeholders in the transport sector were present during the meeting.
