The wife of Abia state governor, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu has said that good health remains the basic platform for the achievement of all other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She stated this on Thursday, at the Award night organized by the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (Forum for Local Government Nurses & Midwives – FOLGONM) to mark the 35th Annual National Scientific Workshop. The Theme of the 4-days event is “Universal Health Coverage: Public – Private Engagement for Better Health.”

Deaconess Ikpeazu, being a major Ambassador for health matters, commended the association for their choice of Abia as the host state. She noted that quality healthcare is a universal right and it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that universal health coverage is achieved.

“I understand the theme of your meeting revolves around mobilizing the public and private sector towards Universal Health coverage.

“Qualitative healthcare is a universal right. Our populace deserves guaranteed access to healthcare. It is a responsibility for all of us to work collectively to achieve Universal Health coverage. For me, good health remains the basic platform for the achievements of all other SDGs, because it ensures human productivity.

“My prayer is that your deliberations will yield outcomes that can make the healthcare delivery system great for Nigerians, and enhance your association,” she said.

She also thanked the Association for honouring her with an Award.

Earlier in his address, the National Chairman of the Association, Com. Obafemi Agbede, said FOLGONM is a group of professional nurses working in LGAs across Nigeria under the parent umbrella of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives. Agbede explained that the objective of the Forum is to promote friendship among nurses and midwives at primary health care level for the purpose of improving the health and life chances of the population at the grassroot.
