Nigerian Army, 82 Division Holds Civil-Media- Military Summit in the Southeast

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Turkur Burutai has called on the media especially those in the Southeast to properly inform the public without bias, devoid of parochial interest, subjectivity and put the national interest first.
Burutai stated this while declaring open a civil-media-military relations summit held at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army, 82 Division,Enugu.
Represnted by the Army Chief of Training and Operations, Major General E. O Udoh, Burutai said the Civil-Media- Military Relations Summit is in line with the desire of the military to keep the public informed about the activities of the military and to galvanize the support of the media in achieving a sane society.
He said the summit is also intended to serve as a means of improving civil military relations and improve the knowledge and understanding of the activities of the military by the public. 
The Army boss explained that the role of the media in shaping the opinion of the public cannot be over-emphasized hence the theme "Galvanizing Citizens Support for Military Operations in Nigeria Through the Media".
He said the activities of the military which includes exrecris Atilogwu Udo 1, Crocodile Smile, among others are part of activities of the military for 2019 within this time of the year. 
The exercise which is also geared towards enhancing the conduct of the men of the military and improve their capacities to handle security challenges this festive period , also offers opportunity for the troops to deal with the perpetrators decisively and to impact the populace through his outreaches including with a view to winning the public with the operations.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General L.A Adeboye also explained that the the summit is geared towards enlightening the media on the true aim of "Exercise Atilogwu Udo 1" (Dance of Peace), a military operation premised on ensuring the safety of Nigerians in the South East region against kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities in the zone during the ember month and the Yuletide seasons.
The summit featured a lecture on the theme " Galvanizing Citizens Support for Military Operations in Nigeria Through the Media", presented by Dr. Ifeanyi Dibogwu of the Department of Mass Communication, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu.
