No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted. This statement is accurate and factual when you take a glance at the impact of the humanitarian organization founded by Abia First Lady, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu.
Vicar hope foundation established to drive a vision narrowed towards assisting the physically challenged and the vulnerable, providing a platform to enhance the status of women, indigent widows, teenagers and children through education, empowerment, healthcare provision and skills development is living up this purposeful tasks.
In addition to the aforementioned, the foundation also foresees the affairs of the aged, carries out intervention and enlightenment campaign against deadly diseases and health challenges.
Mrs Ikpeazu has through the foundation touched lives of many who had experienced a journey through the lonely paths of life and its attendant vicissitudes by providing succour for their rest and relief for their worries. At the last count, over 50 houses have been built and donated to several indigent widows across the State under the widows and indigent shelter scheme of her foundation. These aged women who lived in despair had their hopes rekindled by a spark of kindness from Mrs Ikpeazu. These are some of the accounts and testimonies that are available in large numbers from several families across the state.
Her skill acquisition and empowerment programme has impacted hundreds who were subjected to months of intensive training. Each of the participants got empowered with equipments and take off grants to enable them become self reliant in the quest to create wealth. Beneficiaries were trained in different skills ranging from Photography, Interior decoration, Catering, cosmetology, Tailoring etc.
Vicar hope foundation has recorded landmark projects in many communities. Rural markets were sited in villages and start-up capitals provided for market women. Oloko in Ikwuano LGA, Amaise Okpakiri in Obingwa, Umunnevo in Isialangwa, Isiukwuato are some communities that have so far benefitted from her empowerment for rural women. She leverages on the annual Abia women August delegate conference to empower women with business capital. The foundation has also initiated, supervised and distributed delivery packs to expectant mothers in the State. In addition, it held and monitored a State wide deworming exercise held in schools across the State.
Mrs Ikpeazu through her foundation, has offered a relief to Sickle cell patients by opening a diagnosis and treatment centre as well as providing treatment at subsidized rate. Sickle cell disease is a major genetic disease. Reports indicated that approximately, 5% of the World's population carries trait genes for haemoglobin disorders mainly Sickle cell Disease. Haemoglobin disorders are genetic blood disease due to inheritance of mutant haemoglobin genes from both parents. Over 300,000 babies with Sickle cell are born each year. To curtail and prevent sickle cell disorder, Vicar Hope Foundation has continually embarked on awareness campaigns such as medical outreaches, counselling, road shows as well as promote genotype testing.
Recently, Vicar Hope Foundation acquired a Mammogram Machine for diagnosing Breast Cancer in women. This is another good development that will offer opportunity for any breast cancer patient to be diagnosed in order to receive early treatment. The equipment has been installed at the Vicar hope Center. The killer disease when identified on time could be medically handled.
The impact of Mrs Ikpeazu's pet project cannot be overemphasized. Her vision to touch lives and uplift the downtrodden is a success story. She has consistently demonstrated her passion to provide hope to the hopeless. Even though such success stories are under reported, their impacts loudly speak.
