Abia First Lady flags off 2019 round of August meeting

The 2019 edition of the Abia Women’s August Delegates Conference AWADEC, organized by the Office of the Wife of the Governor in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs is to hold on Wednesday the 7th of August 2019 at the International Conference Centre, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia.
The event with the theme “Balance for the Better” will attract over 4,500 women delegates from various Local Government Areas, professional groups, women organizations, and welfare associations.
A release signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Office of the Wife of the Governor, Chika Ojiegbe, says the AWADEC which is in its fifth season, will showcase cultural exhibitions including folklore, dance, artwork and cuisine from every part of the state.
The release further directs delegates to arrive the International Conference Centre, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia by 9 a.m. to complete registration procedures before the arrival of the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu.
The Abia Women’s August Delegates Conference which first took place in 2015 is designed as an agenda setting conference ahead of the annual August meetings of various communities and associations. From the 2015 edition till date, AWADEC has placed emphasis on encouraging women to pursue communal programs that would address their communities’ needs, empower women psychologically, socially and economically, capture the essence of true womanhood as well as shape their attitudes in a constantly evolving and challenging global community.
Each AWADEC has had a central theme. Discussions revolve around the theme and the women have take-aways that would enable them enrich the discourse at the community levels. 
Four editions of AWADEC have been held.
2015: Empower women Empower Humanity;
2016: Education for Better Life;
2017: Sustainable Empowerment for Rural Women;
2018: Women Participation in Decision Making – the Bedrock to Sustainable Development. 
Every edition of AWADEC since inception has paraded erudite Igbo women who have distinguished themselves in their careers, presenting well-researched papers, topical and germane to issues of development as they pertain to women and the family. Some of the subjects dealt with at the various editions include women and children’s rights, spirituality and morality, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, leadership skills, interpersonal skills development, community mobilization strategies, home management skills, child rearing skills and money management just to mention a few.
This year’s event will feature two lectures titled “Inclusion for Development” and “Our Children, Our Future”.
