Abia Education Commissioner calls for release of 15-year-old arrested for attempted Murder

The Abia state Commisioner for Education, Professor Ikechi Mgbeoji has joined other Nigerians in calling for the release of the 15-year-old child who was arrested for poisoning her much older husband in Kano state.
Hassana Lawan, of Bechi Village, allegedly poisoned 33-year-old Sale Abubakar on April 16 at about 2pm. She allegedly gave him food with rat poison.
The husband was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano for treatment while it was revealed that the housewife will be charged to court.
But Nigerians are calling for her release with the hashtag #FreeHassanaLawan.
According to Prof. Ikechi, it is the husband who married a child bride that deserves arrest, not the "poor girl".
He tweeted: "Free this poor girl. Jail all child rapists. To call the animal a husband is insulting to some of us who are husband. How the hell does one become the husband of a 15-year-old child?"
