The Abia state chapter of the Young Progressives Party, has unanimously, congratulated the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on his reelection in the just concluded governorship election in the state.

Speaking at the party's secretariat, in Umuahia, the state's capital, on Thursday the YPP governorship candidate in the Mr Ngozi Nkoro, said the party would support Ikpeazu in the rest of Abia residents.

"On behalf of my party, the Young progressives Party, I wish to use this opportunity to congratulate the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu on his victory in the just concluded election", he said.

Nkoro who comes from Abia South senatorial zone as the Governor, however, condemned the flaws and shortcomings in the electoral process, as observed, according to him, by his party, but said that in the spirit of sportsmanship, he was urging Governor Ikpeazu to as effectively as possible, deliver people oriented policies and programs for the betterment of the state and its residents.

He implored the reelected Governor to discard all associations, relationships and political affiliations, which Will impeded and limited his performance in the course of his first tenure.

He said, "The YPP wish to sincerely call on Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to set aside all associations, relationship and all affiliations that have impeded and restricted the the expression of your great leadership and generous spirit, that has limited your optimal performance in this first tenure. I call on you to work decisively for the progress of Abia state, so that posterity will be kind to you, to Abia South and the entire Abia state".

He enjoined the governor to focus on those aspects of the people's existence ranging from infrastructure, health, worker/ pensioner's welfare, security and economy, which he insisted demand immediate intervention, in his second tenure.

Fielding questions from journalists, Nkoro stated that the party, if called upon he would be willing to work with the government towards ensuring a progressive and transformed Abia.

Also speaking, Mr Prince Udo Okpere Udo and Nwoko Uzodima, the party's deputy governorship candidate and chairman, respectively maintain that YPP represents the betterment, progress and welfare of Nigeria, adding "and Abia, being our primary area which is where we represent and our interest is in the welfare of the people of Abia and the development of the state, they said, while insisting that YPP remains an opposition party".
