Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed worry over reports of extortion by some law enforcement officers in Abia. He advised Abians to report perpetrators of such act to the appropriate quarter.

The Governor made this known in Umuahia during an interactive session monitored by FACTNEWS.

"I have asked police and Army to leave people alone. You don't harass people and collect money from them on meter after a meter. But then, there are channels. If they collect money from you, report to the channel and we will take it up," Ikpeazu said.

In acknowledgment of the recent call by Nigerians to #EndSARS, Ikpeazu recounted that in one of their operations, a state officer was whisked away by SARS without recourse to him nor the Commissioner of police.

"You can see what's happening to F-SARS. They came here a few weeks ago to pick one of our officers because someone paid them to. They came , removed him by 9pm and drove by road to Abuja. Somewhere along Lokoja, they encountered armed robbers...they came a carried a state officer without recourse to the Commissioner of police, without recourse to my humble self.

"The excesses of the law enforcement officers is getting on the nerves of everybody. when I took it up with the Commissioner of Police, he said he was going to lecture his people and he was willing to take it up if we report such acts.

"So, let people not complain on Radio alone, every police officer has a name tag but don't let him know you want to take his number. If you're able to copy out his number and that activity, report it to us. You can be sure that the officer won't be there to do that anymore," He assured.
The Governor also pledged to provide additional street light to lighten up the state capital this festive period. He urged Abians to stay safe and remain law abiding.
