Abia Flags Off "Save One Million Lives Programme"

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu while officially flagging off the Comprehensive Roll- Out of Save one million lives programme for results of the Ministry of Health said health is of primary importance because only a healthy person talks about economy.
"The emphasis on save one million lives is one that touches on the heart of every parents" this calls on all parents to present their children from 0-59 days for immunization.
According to the Governor deaths and births of our children must be preserved "if we have not been able to deal with the death and birth of our children, we have not done well".
Governor Ikpeazu noted that "free HIV screening is the responsibility of every adult because if you don't present yourself for screening it would be difficult to help you and called against stigmatization".
He said Abia is to build a specialist hospital to deal with child health and care.
This will be dedicated to children between 0-5 years and their mothers so that he hey can compliment the efforts of the ministry of health to save one million lives initiative.
 
He called on all health practitioners at all levels to rededicate and commit themselves to the service of humanity. 
He described children from 0-5 years, their mothers and the aged as the most vulnerable in the society. 
His government's is working at ensuring free medical care for the aged in their communities."we are careful about the most vulnerable in our society, those who cannot speak for themselves, the old ones and the young ones"
He assured that his government will not interfer with the project and must ensure that all monies approved for the project must be judiciously utilized. He called on those planning to squander the funds to look elsewhere because his administration will not tolerate that. 
He noted that the rights and opportunities given to other children must be given to the vulnerable ones in the society.
Hr called on health practitioners to rededicate themselves for the future of the state whom the children represents.
Reminded them that to whom much is given much is expected. 
Governor Ikpeazu also thanked the development partners for their contributions towards the well being of Abia and promised to continously pay it's counterpart funding especially in the health sector. 
Nwachukwu Agomuoh, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, in his opening remark, said the programme is a health intervention programme meant to improve maternal and child health, free vaccination and immunization of young children between 0-59 months,free HIV screening,testing and treatment of pregnant mother and child, and free birth delivery support. 
It will also provide free and long lasting insecticide treated nets against malaria, free vitamin A supplements for young child and free tuberculosis treatment.
 
5 year programme inaugurated by former administration of Goodluck Jonathan but implemented by the present of administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said it is also predicated on both innovations and changes in the health sector and aimed at achieving results especially improving data on accountability in the health sector.
According to him, Abia experiences 83 deaths per 1000 live birth which is below the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals. 
Agomuoh said the concept is innovative and the state will pursue results having started late.
Some of the strategies to achieve the program Agomuoh revealed includes, procurement of the  needed equipment to solve health services and training of health personnel at all levels among others. 
The Health Permanent Secretary appreciated the governor and his wife for their unalloyed support and implementation of some successful programmes of the health sector.
Blessing Nwagba, Chairman House Committee on Health, Abia House of Assembly described the programme as laudable and will improve lives of Abians and Nigerians if well implemented. 
She chided other implementing agencies to ensure its achievements. 
The House Committee on Health Chairman, commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his efforts at ensuring a sustainable health sector and his commitment to health in the state.
She assured that Abia House of Assembly will do all within its capacity to ensure that health is given top priority especially in bill passages.
Nwagba revealed that the HIV/AIDs anti-retroviral acts will soon be passed into law.
