Abia Agriculture Receives a Boost

The Agriculture sector in Abia State will receive a boost as the state government has revealed plans to cultivate palm,cocoa and cassava estates across the state.

 

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu made this known while on a "thank you tour of local governments in the state. Speaking to newsmen at the end of the tour that took him to Umuahia North and South and Ikwuano Local Governments,

 

Governor Ikpeazu said before the end of his term, about 10 to 20,000 youths would have been employed in agriculture. He said the need to return to agriculture as the main stay of the economy has become imperative. To this end, the state government plans to add value to its agricultural produce like cassava by attracting the right investors. 

 

Governor Ikpeazu announced that plans are already under way to build an industrial starch producing factory at Osisioma soon.

 

The planting of the 40 million oil palm seedlings across Abia would soon commence. He announced plans by his administration to embark on the massive planting of cassava, cocoa and rice. Governor Ikpeazu also announced that in the next two years, Abia North and Central will witness massive development especially in areas of road infrastructure.

 

He revealed that the planned Ohafia International Golf Course and Event Centre would be commissioned before the end of the next two years.
