A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayo Akande has described Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola as a unique leader and a blessing not only to Lagos State but to the current generation of Nigerians.

Akande, made this known recently while commending the Lagos state governor over his government’s handling of Ebola virus in the state and at same time sympathized with families of those who have lost loved ones to the disease through no fault of theirs.

On another development, a Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist, Chinua Asuzu, described Fashola as one of the many office holders that have been unduly promoted by the Nigerian media. He saw Fashola as one of the governor that have run the worst anti-people government, and wondered why some people would ignore this to praise the governor to high heavens.

Akande had stated that the governor was able to curtail the dreaded Ebola virus because of his visionary leadership even as the state had not yet received any amount of money from the 1.9 milion funds raised to support the federal government in combating the virus.

He referred to the refusal of the fund as result of the political differences between APC and PDP and criticized the PDP controlled federal government for not giving Lagos state the needed support. He explained further that If Patrick Sawyer had visited any other state in Nigeria aside Lagos, the situation would have been very bad given the population of Lagos it could have become worse if not for the practical steps taken by Fashola and his team.

Explaining that Fashola deserved commendation “Lagos State have almost 175 cases of Ebola, and it is being managed well, just imagine his type as president of this country and I tell you Nigeria will be competing with other developed nations in the world. The present PDP government has brought untold woes to this country" he stated.

He gave tribute to the Lagos State government over the five patients that were quarantined that have finally been declared free from the virus.

But Asuzu, saw the Lagos Governor as a personality a personality among many that have been unduly promoted in the media, despite his anti-peoples governance policies. His words: “Look at all manner of crazy things Fashola is doing in Lagos State, and people are praising him for something we cannot see. The other day he was talking about environmental sanitation and environment. After eight years, Lagos State is the dirtiest state in Africa. We have nightclubs in people’s neighbourhood in Lagos State, and nobody is asking about that” Asuzu said.

Describing Nigeria as not running a democracy, he contended that a country only runs a democracy when kindness oozes from the governing individuals to the governed. His words: “Real democracy has heart for the people, The way to do it (run a democracy) is by government extending kindness to the human beings it governs, which is the meaning of civilization. It is only when government extends kindness into governance that people will begin to buy into democracy”.
