Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has challenged members of the Abia State chapter of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to join forces with his government to develop the state. The Governor stated this when members of the council paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Umuahia.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said that as stakeholders they have a lot to contribute towards the development of the state, adding that the state will lag behind except there is peaceful coexistence.
He appreciated the delegation for their sentiments for the development of the state and assured of his support.
According to the Governor, part of his administration’s policy is to engage strategic and critical stakeholders from time to time.
He maintained that the desire to do the right thing informed his decision for the December 17 conduct of Local Government elections.
The Governor was of the view that the use of transition committee chairmen in running the Local Governments was playing a negative role in deepening democracy in the country, adding that Abia has lost a lot in terms of experience in the last 10 years that elections have not been conducted into the councils.
Dr Ikpeazu expressed surprise that IPAC has not been getting on well with the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission and promised to engage the chairman commission to carry them along in their activities.
The Governor promised to provide subvention to all the parties involved in the December LG polls as well as to encourage women to participate in the elections and regretted that desperation of some politicians has adversely affected the ideals of democracy in the state.

Earlier, the chairman, Inter party Advisory Council, prince Emeka Okafor and the state chairman of APC, Hon Donatus Okorie said they came to identify with the Governor on the good works he is doing in the state and pleaded with him to prevail on the chairman of INEC to drastically reduce the fees payable by the political party aspirants to enable them participate actively in the December 17thLocal Government elections including women.
