Senate Mandates Saraki to Intervene in ASUU Strike

The Senate has mandated Senate President Bukola Saraki to immediately intervene and halt the proposed strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) scheduled to begin today.

ASUU had on Monday announced its intention to commence warning strike over failure of the Federal Government to implement the FG-ASUU 2009 agreement.

The resolution mandating Saraki to intervene in the faceoff was sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North) on the proposed strike.

Moving the motion, Jibrin who chairs the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund said there was urgent need to look into the issue to halt the proposed strike of the union.
