Abia State Government Restates Plans For Youth Empowerment

One of the agenda of the present administration is Entrepreneurship and Skills development. To this end, the governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has at several fora enjoined the youths in the state to identify their areas of strength to be trained in other to enhance the economic transformation of the state through locally made products. The governor has once again assured of his commitment to youth empowerment through entrepreneurship and youth development.

 


 

 

At the Flag off of the Otawike Youth initiative, youth empowerment training and skills acquisition scheme, Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu reinstated his readiness to build an Abia that would stand out as the centre of trade and investment not just in the Southeast, but in Nigeria.

 

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youths Development, Bar. Hagler Okorie said his administrations agenda for the youth is hinged on the recognition of the disease of unemployment across Nigeria.

 

According to him, a lot of unemployed graduates roaming the streets are those without skills. He said this informed his decision to change the trend to ensure youths are empowered through entrepreneurship and skills development.

 


 

 

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees member of the scheme, Ginger Onwusibe and Gan Alozie in their separate speeches expressed confidence that the programme would change the mindset of the youth towards been their own bosses. They urged them to take the training seriously to enjoy its benefits.

 


 

 

Earlier in his speech, the General Commander, Otawike Youth Initiative, Tony Otuonye said that 220 participants drawn from the 20 wards in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state would benefit from the scheme.

 

He said that the first phase of the training would cover satellite installation, information technology Training, Events planning and Decoration, Painting, knitting, bead making, among others.

 

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their joy.

 

Governor Ikpeazu commended the Otawike Youth Initiative for keying into the governments agenda for creating avenues for gainful employment of youths.
