Abia State Government to Conduct Local Government Elections Before the End of the Year

Abia State Government has revealed that plans are underway to conduct Local Government Elections across the 17 Local Governments before the end of the year.

This was part of the decisions reached at the end of the weekly State Executive Council meeting.

Briefing newsmen, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha said the State Executive Council took the decision after a critical look at the implications, effects and consequences, including the developments that goes with Local Government elections.

The Commissioner said the state government mandates the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, to come up with the date for the elections before the end of the year.

The election is to be held in line with the constitutional provisions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Also,the State Executive Council received and adopted the Internally Generated Revenue,IGR, policy document of the state by the IGR committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu. This he said is in line with Federal Government's decision to ensure revenue collection and harmonization across the country.

The policy is expected to address all issues relating to revenue collection and ensure that problems that has existed over time with revenue collection is addressed headlong.
