Residents of Faulks Road and Ukwu Mango area will soon heave a sigh of relief as Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has flagged off the reconstruction of the 4.6 kilometer road.  The project will be handled by a foreign construction firm, Setraco Limited. The government will also tackle the problem of flooding at Ife Obara.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said attempts by previous administrations to reconstruct the road failed because adequate attention was not given to Ife Obara Basin.  He said as soon as work begins on the site, he would regularly visit the project site to ensure good quality work.

In order to provide a lasting solution to the perennial flooding in the area, the Governor further said the company handling the project will also construct a 5.6 kilometre underground water tunnel to channel the flood water from Ife Obara Basin to Aba River (waterside).

Governor Ikpeazu made it clear that houses and shops that are built along the proposed tunnel would be pulled down.

He urged traditional rulers and youths in the area to cooperate with the construction company to ensure speedy completion of the project.

The project is estimated to cost #6.8 billion.
