Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has flagged off the reconstruction of part of Aba Road in Umuahia Dual Carriage Way, as part of activities marking his second year in office. The road would be reconstructed by Arab Contractors.

Part of the road affected is the portion from the Railway line at Old Umuahia, by the Federal Government Girls College to Uchenna Bus stop Junction. It's a 2.65 Kilometre road, which include the worst portion of the Aba Road, Umuahia.
Governor Ikpeazu said the flag was significant because it marked the beginning of his governments second year in power. He used the occasion to christen the second year in office as "the year of speed". The Governor urged the contractors to do a good job such that the road would last for at least seven years.

The Managing Director of Arab Contractors, Osama Mustapha called for the corporation of Abians to enable the company deliver a durable road.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Eziuche Ubani highlighted the economic significance of the road and appealed to Abians to bear the temporary discomfort associated with the road reconstruction.

The Transition Chairman, Umuahia South Local Government Area, Randy Ukanwoke drew the attention of the Governor to the Umuokpara Ring Road, which he said required urgent attention.
