Gov. Ikpeazu Reassures on Building on His Five Cardinal Objectives

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has reiterated his administration's commitment to building on his five points agenda, which includes Education, Agriculture, Commerce and trade, oil and gas. The Governor made the commitment during the quarterly media briefing at the banquet hall of government house, Umuahia.

While reeling out his administration's scorecard in the last 100 days, the Governor said his philosophy is to leverage on the co-operative advantage in the state especially trade and commerce. He said Abia is the hub of Small and medium Scale Enterprises of Nigeria popularly known for her leather works, shoes, bags and garments, but needs infrastructure upgrade to support its development plans. 
The Governor said the pillars of his administration, which hinges basically on ownership, innovation, performance, commitment and integrity informed the decision for massive road construction across the state.

He said of the 65 roads flagged off for construction and rehabilitation, 27 have been fully completed with drainage channels in ten months, with most built with cement technology.  Governor Ikpeazu added that most of the roads with streetlights are powered by solar, generator and sometimes the National grid.

He further revealed that two bridges have been completed at Umunneochi, and Okon Ohafia and electricity provided for some rural communities of Uturu and Umuahia. 
According to him, plans are underway on water supply measures to institutions within and outside Umuahia.

On Education, Governor Ikpeazu said his administration embarked on schools rehabilitation with "adopt a school initiative", with the aim of not just rehabilitating the schools to world class standard but mentoring the pupils. He said two model schools would be built at the three zones of the ad state, with 25 pupils per class, and well equipped computer laboratories, as a response to drift from public to private schools. 
Teacher training would also receive a boost in partnership with the Australian Ministry of Education to further improve learning output. 
The Governor further revealed that the state government would in a few weeks from now begin a review of the licensing of private schools in the state.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu while touching on health said with over 250 Primary Health Centres in the state, the Secondary health institutions are in a sorry state which must be tackled urgently to restore the faith of the people on public health system. 
He noted that the state government would collaborate with renowned medical practitioners beyond Nigeria to revive the health sector. He revealed that seven medical experts are already in Abia for a tour of the health ministry to strategize on bringing interventions to the medical sector. 
Obingwa, Okeibe, Arochukwu, and Ikwuano would get model secondary tertiary institutions, while super tertiary health care facility would be built at Obeaku. Also, health inspectors and vanguard would be back on the streets while the free emergency ambulance would be reinvented for timely health interventions.

On Agriculture, the Governor emphasized that the state would focus on oil palm, cassava, coca and rice productions to make Abia food sufficient, while poultry would be given serious attention to make the Abia the poultry centre of the Southeast in collaboration with Obasanjo farms, and establishment of a poultry village for young farmers.
