The poor sanitary situation of Umuahia, the Abia State Capital is calling for urgent attention as incessant setting of waste bins on fire appears to be the new trend in waste disposal.
Setting fire on waste receptacles is now a common sight in the city of Umuahia that it appears to have become the new trend of waste disposal.

This worrisome development caught the attention of factnewsonline crew who visited several refuse generation points within the city and found the situation to be the same.
Aside the health implications of this act on individuals, its adverse effects on both the economy and the immediate environment pose a serious challenge which the authorities cannot afford to neglect.

Government agencies like the Abia State Ministry of Environment and the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) must expedite actions to put this ugly practice to a stop, and ensure that Umuahia reclaims its good sanitary status as a capital city.
