Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Inaugurates Dry Port Project Committee

In order to hasten the realization of the dry port project which was conceived many years ago, Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has inaugurated a committee on the Inland Dry Port at Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North local government area.

The inauguration of the Committee which is headed by Arc. Dan Nwankwo took place at government house Umuahia.

Inaugurating the committee, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said the exercise has become imperative as his administration is pursuing vigorously to open up trade and commerce which is one of the main pillars that will drive the economy of the state.

With the fall of the price of crude oil in the international market, Governor Ikpeazu said every right thinking government should think of ways of remaining afloat pointing out that it is important for his administration to give serious attention to the dry port project.

He said members of the committee were purely selected on merit because of their proven track record. The Governor called on those who are not members of the committee to come up with useful contributions that will help in the actualization of the project.

Responding on behalf of other members, the Chairman of the committee, Arc. Dan Nwankwo assured that they will do all they can to ensure the realization of the project.

On the benefits of the project, Arc. Nwankwo said the entire south-east will benefit immensely from the project through the creation of employment opportunities for the army of unemployed youth as well as stimulating a new core of industrial growth at Ntigha in partnership with trusted foreign investors.

He said that the first phase of the project has two parts; the dry port and container terminal and the special economic and industrial zone.

The Chairman said that the dry port and container terminal in particular will benefit the people of the south-east region as major importers in the country.

The dry port project which will be located in Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North local government area was conceived by the administration of former Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
