The federal government of Nigeria has asked Chief of Defence Intelligence, AVM Moday Riku Morgan to proceed on retirement leave.

The development is coming barely one week after a faceless group, which claimed to be Idoma leaders asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the defence boss for dabbling into home politics.

According to a Daily Post report, even though Morgan is now due for retirement, President Buhari had earlier promised to extend his tenure for his bravery and vast experience.

The report shows that Military sources revealed that Morgan was however informed to proceed on retirement leave with immediate effect on Wednesday after which he will finally bow out of service. His leave starts today, according to sources.

“Though AVM Morgan is due for retirement, President Buhari had promised to extend his tenure due to his vast knowledge of the system. He’s not surprised anyway, but disappointed somehow that the development is coming few days after a controversial statement from his ‘kinsmen’ calling for his removal surfaced in the media,” a source said.

Some statements by some Idoma groups had claimed that some Idoma heavy weights, including former Senate President could have been after Morgan’s job because of his perceived relationship with Mark’s political opponent, Daniel Onjeh.

But another source who spoke on the matter claimed his retirement was due even while he was serving at Oshodi as a commandant, Military Resettlement Centre.

Disassociating Mark from the action of the government, the source who pleaded not to be mentioned said, ”it will be wrong for any one to say Mark was behind his retirement. The man had all along been using his life-line. How will D-Mark influence a government that he is not part of?,” he asked.
