The People Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has filed notice of appeal against the ruling of the Owerri Appeal Court Panel which declared APGA's Alex Otti winner of the Governorship Election held in April.

In accordance with Nigerian law, the filing of notice of Appeal will stay the execution of the judgement by the appeal court pending determination of the appeal at the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile massive protests continue across the three LGAs whose votes were canceled by the Appeal Panel headed by Justice Oyebisi Omoleye. Women, youths and elderly persons trooped out in their thousands for a second day of protests against what they termed "cash and carry judgement" that denied them their constitutional right to vote.
The Police Area Commander for Aba addressed a large gathering of the protesters and commended them for being peaceful. He assured them that the police will not confront peaceful protesters.
Similarly, elders and political leaders of Ukwa-Ngwa community led by former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, addressed a press conference today after marching with the protesters. They condemned the judgement of the Appeal Court which they said was a brazen attempt to steal the mandate of an Ukwa-Ngwa man who was elected by the majority of Abians. They queried the ruling which disenfranchised over 250,000 Abians in an election where the court awarded margin of victory was 50,000.
Our correspondents who visited various parts of the affected LGAs reported widespread anger within the affected communities.
