The Abia State Government has revealed that the environmental sanitization exercise currently in force in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state is to ensure decency and propriety to the city.

Speaking through the Chief Press Secretary, Godwin Adindu, the government said street trading and hawking is causing a serious menace and environmental hazard to the Enyimba city, as well as poses a risk to the life of the traders.
The Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, noted that street trading and hawking is no longer tolerated anywhere in the world and therefore urged the residents of the city to cooperate with his administration in achieving a cleaner and friendly city.
It maintained that sanitizing the city is one of the cardinal policies of the present administration through the Aba Urban Renewal Office, and would not tolerate any act of disobedience that would want to hinder the progress of the project.

This comes amidst incidents of resistance and disobedience to instructions by the state government by some traders in Aba, leading to misunderstanding between them and officials of the Aba Urban Renewal Office.
It however, urged the street traders to relocate to the Goodmorning Market, along East Street by Ngwa Road.
