Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has urged the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Movement For the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, to end protests across the state and the Southeast and southsouth as their voices have been heard locally and internationally.

The Abia State Government in a statement said the pro-Biafra protesters have made their statement with the call for the release of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and therefore should give peace a chance and await government’s reaction.
It further noted that though the protests have been largely peaceful in the state, it disturbed the socio-economic activities of the state, hence, the need for the group to change its strategy from peaceful march to negotiation with the federal government.

The state government reiterated that the southeast cannot afford militancy and urged the group to leave the streets, to ensure that detractors do no not take advantage of it to perpetrate heinous crimes against the government.
It however, commended the security agencies in the state for their professionalism in handling the protest in Abia state to ensure a violent free protest.
The Umuahia protest was said to be in line with the decision of the protesters to extend their peaceful march to all parts of the South East protesting the continued detention of the Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu, who hails from Afara Ukwu in Umuahia North Local Council of the state.
