Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has read the riot act to the newly sworn in commissioners by urging them to avoid all forms of corruption. Dr. Ikpeazu stated this during the swearing in of members of the state executive council which took place at Michael Okpara auditorium.
The swearing in of the twenty new commissioners can be regarded as the climax of the search for the few Abians that will assist Governor Ikpeazu in achieving his goal of uplifting the state. After taking the oath of office which was administered by the solicitor-general of the state, Mr. Enyinnaya Okezie, Governor Ikpeazu told the new commissioners to see their appointment as a privilege because they are not better than other Abians. While urging them to put aside any thing that will hinder them from contributing their quota in improving the welfare of the people, the Governor made it clear that the commissioners did not spend any money before they were chosen. He said Abia is in a hurry to advance to a higher level and that the state has everything it will take to embark on the journey. The Governor told the commissioners that they are partners in the difficult journey of uplifting the state and advised them to ensure that their loyalty are not divided at any time. The number one citizen of the state commended the state lawmakers for doing a great job by thoroughly screening the commissioners.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Obinna Oriaku who will oversee the Finance Ministry thanked Governor Ikpeazu for the opportunity given them to serve the state. He described their appointment as an act of God and that they were selected not to amass wealth but to assist the Governor to achieve his goal of uplifting the state.
The swearing in ceremony was witnessed by high government officials including the deputy-governor Ude Oko-Chukwu, chieftains of the Abia state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, friends and relatives of the new commissioners.
