The Abia State president of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Mr. Ijioma Onyenaucheya has explained that the salary of workers in the council was cut to accommodate all the workers due to shortfall in allocation.

Reacting to the strike action embarked upon by council workers in Umuahia South Local Government, Onyenaucheya absolved the government of sinister motive in the deduction of the September salaries of the workers.

Onyenaucheya ruled out the issue of asking the workers to embark on strike, saying it would be resolved amicably.

On the current verification exercise of the council workers as condition for the payment of salaries, Onyenaucheya welcomed the idea, saying the union was not against the position of government on the conduct of the exercise.
