Enyeama, out of AFCON clash

Nigeria skipper Vincent Enyeama has become the second player after Italy-based midfielder Joel Obi to withdraw from Saturday’s AFCON qualifier in Tanzania, according to Brila FM Radio.

The all-sports radio station reported that the Lille shot stopper wrote to coach Sunday Oliseh that he pulled out of the game because of personal reasons.

Eagles spokesman Toyin Ibitoye told AfricanFootball.com he has not briefed in this respect by the leadership of the team and would rather not comment.

However, it would be recalled that Enyeama rowed with the country’s leadership after he raised concerns over the safety of Kaduna to stage the team’s opening AFCON qualifier against Chad in June.

The goalkeeper, who is the country’s most capped star with 101 caps, was queried with the NFF toying with the idea of banishing the player from international duty.

However, they will later soft pedal, saying the row will be handled in-house.

England-based Carl Ikeme could well make his Nigeria debut on Saturday, while Enyimba goalkeeper Femi Thomas is now to be drafted to the squad.
