Okezie Ikpeazu Should Be Blackmailed

Majority of those who worked against the emergence of Abia's Governor-elect Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, did so because of their suspicions about him. Stories were told and retold, forming opinions in people's mind.

An average Aba man does not have the patience to verify facts. That is why one can be easily mobbed at the shout of 'owu onye oshi oo' in that city.

Few disgruntled elements who know this, used it as a propaganda tool against Dr Okezie. They told the masses that he is brought in by a godfather to continue to loot the State. That was enough to stir disaffection, writing the humble lecturer off even when experience, academics, service, zoning and even destiny qualified him for the number one seat.

It is therefore not surprising that uptil now, when ordinarily they should have resigned to the giant strides of destiny, they are still fanning the embers of discord. Talks of going to the tribunal are rife.

Fanatically believing that Abians have good retentive memories, they know that once beaten, twice shy. They can not allow Okezie to fail them.

How to do this?

First, Abians should collectively be proactive, blocking every loophole, not giving the Governor-elect an escape route IF he fails. We are used to hearing Governors give excuses for not performing. These excuses include being distracted by petitions and court hearings at the election Tribunal.

They should work hard against any case at the Tribunal. Now that it is suspected that he is going to be a stooge, he should not be given any reason for an excuse or shortcoming. He must not be distracted. Abia cannot afford another waste of four long years and the State's scarce resources.

Secondly, the bone should be hung around Dr Okezie's neck. This means giving him all necessary support including love. Make him know you have implicit confidence in him. He is no fool. He knows the consequences of squandering the collective goodwill of the people. That way, he will be wary and cautious.

Finally, blackmail him by resisting any form of internal and external distraction on him. Make any distraction an anathema. Solidarity forever.

Abia must be better. Let's put our hands on that deck.
