At least three students have reportedly been killed and others taken hostage in a Taliban assault on an army-run school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
At least six militants wearing security uniforms entered the school, local officials told the media. Gunfire and explosions have been heard in the area.
The army has cordoned off the site but it is not clear if soldiers entered.

A Taliban spokesman told the BBC the assault was in response to army operations against the militants.
Hundreds of Taliban fighters are thought to have died in a recent military operation in North Waziristan and the nearby Khyber area.

A school worker and a student interviewed by the local Geo TV station said the attackers had entered the Army Public School's auditorium, where a military team was conducting first-aid training for students.
More than 20 students and teachers have been taken to a nearby hospital in Peshawar.
