Ika Northeast Local Government Area of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has joined in the protests over the Party's last Saturday primaries. As it is, the leadership of the party in this area is battling to restore normalcy.

Factnews can authoritatively report that the protests started on Saturday when the Returning Officer and the materials arrived late at the Venue of the election. Thugs had invaded the place and disrupted the process, and there were sporadic shooting for some time before the police used teargas to disperse them, temporarily.

Normalcy did not return to the Venue for voting to start until about 6pm. This got so many delegates frustrated. The announcement by the party's Secretary in the LGA, that the primary has been postponed, caused confusion and aggravated the situation. It was also gathered that the Returning Officer insisted that the PDP executive members and Ward Chairmen were not entitled to vote. This led to chaos, which subsequently stalled normal voting process.

The Woman Leader was also not allowed to enter the Obaigbena Primary School, venue of the primary. The party's LGA Secretary said her name was not on the original list, being a replacement for the deceased former Woman Leader.

Currently, the people are threatening to vote against the PDP if nothing is done to soothe nerves. Petitions are being forwarded to the appropriate authorities, calling for cancellation of the results on grounds of irregularities and disenfranchisement.
