Abia takes issues of Gender Equality seriously - Ikpeazu

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu says his administration is ahead of many states in Gender-friendly legislations and activities protecting women's rights including the recently passed bill that will give women right to inheritance in the State. 

 

Governor Ikpeazu who stated this while receiving the executive members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Abia State Chapter at the Governor's Lodge Aba noted that in order to reduce infant and maternal mortality in the state, as well as give the rural populace quality healthcare services, medical laboratories are to be established at the Primary Healthcare Centers across the state.

 

Governor Ikpeazu who said that the process has taken off with Nkwoegwu Primary Healthcare Center in Umuahia North LGA explained that four others will soon take off.

 

According to the Governor, already his administration has procured 3 Mobile Clinics, each equipped with operating theatre, maternity and laboratory with the aim of achieving more reduction in the infant and maternity mortality rate which is currently at 70% in the State, noting that medical professionals will be attached to ensure quality and timely healthcare delivery to the rural populace.

 

Governor Ikpeazu explained that his aggressive reconstruction of roads on assumption of office especially in Umuahia and Aba has made movement of people and goods easier. 

 

He noted that such strategy has changed the narrative of the state especially on Trade and Commerce resulting in the state being currently ranked No. 3 on the list of least pover states by National Bureau of Statistics and thanked God that the State has moved from where it was since 2015.

 

The Governor who extolled the leadership of Abia NAWOJ for their togetherness promised to look into their needs as well as support them in their projects.

 

Speaking earlier, the Abia State Chairperson of NAWOJ - Lady Josephine Ogwo said that they came to present the new executive members of the body to him, inform him of their activities, and lauded him for his infrastructural achievements especially the inclusion of women in his administration.

 

Lady Ogwo who said that the promotion of Made in Aba goods campaign of Governor Okezie helped the entrepreneurial ingenuity of the artisans and prayed that God will give him victory in his Senatorial ambition.

 

She appealed for a vehicle to enable them embark on voters education in the 17LGAs of the state, a piece of land for the building of their Secretariat and financial support to feed the indigents this yuletide season among other things.

 

In a vote of thanks, the pioneer Chairperson of the Association - Mrs Nwaka Amauwa, appreciated Governor Ikpeazu for the warm reception and his promise to support them while assuring him of their continuous role to make Abia better.
