Vulnerable persons to receive FG grant in Abia State

The state Focal person of Social Investment programme Mr chinenye Nwaogu in his welcome address gave detailed analysis of positive impacts of social investment programmes in the state. The state focal person Rollout activities of programs been implemented by Abia state Government which includes: school feeding program. Government Enterprise and Empowerment program (GEEP), Digitize payment for conditional cash transfer CCT, Npower which have empowered not less than 20,000 persons in Abia state, Home- Grown school feeding. The Focal person made it know that with good effort of state government in implementations of SIP, Abia state is the only state in Nigeria feeding from primary 1 - 6

 

The Hon. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster management and social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq in her welcome address thanked the state government on how it carries the implementations of SIP in Abia state. She made this known at the Micheal Okpara Auditorium Hall on Saturday when she flagged off the programme in the state alongside the Digitized payment for Conditional Cash Transfer and the National Sensitization Exercise for the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP). 

 

The Minister who was represented by the Direction of special Needs Mrs. ONUKWE NKECHI said that since the commencement of the National Social Investment Programmes in 2016, many lives of the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria have been positively impacted.

 

“While the target of this Cash Grant project is to increase income and productive assets of the target beneficiaries, it is highly expected that the beneficiaries will use of the grant to improve their productivity, create wealth, generate employment and improve their living standard.

 

“President Muhammadu Buhari, through his deliberate social inclusion agenda has directed that 70% of these beneficiaries must be women, while the remaining 30% is for the youths. He also directed that, at least 15% of the total number of beneficiaries must specifically be allocated to citizens with special needs, including Persons with Disability (PWDs) and Senior Citizens in the State. 

 

In his remarks, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu thanked the Federal Government for the programme and its impact on the vulnerable in the state. 

The Governor who was represented by Mazi Donatus Okorie, Hon. Commissioner of Rural Development stated that history will remember Okezie Ikpeazu administration for his efforts towards SME's. He thank the federal government for flagging off the programme in the State.

 

Highlights of the program includes: Handover cheques to Beneficiaries of Tradamoni, Market moni and farmers moni of

 Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP 2.0)

 

- Launch the Digitized Conditional Cash Transfer payment systemfor @HUPcct to improve the pace of payment

 

- Handover of utensils and Flag-off the National Sensitization Exercise for the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), which seeks to educate and sensitize communities and stakeholders on the proper and more effective implementation of the NHGSFP.

 

- The on-boarding and Handover of engagement letters to Stream II of the Independent Monitors (IMs) who are drawn from the local youth population and employed for a period of 12 months, with a monthly stipend of N30,000 to closely monitor and report on the implementation and performance of all the NSIP projects in the state
