Leaders and members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently applying caution to the reports that serving Senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has stepped down from the governorship race of his state, Abia State.

Latest investigations showed that the party and a great number of its membership were taking the news of his stepping-down with great caution. Our reporters where reliably informed that they were taking this stance because they wanted to understand the full implication of the Senator's move before taking a position on the development.

Reports had it that the Senator, a former deputy governor of Abia State, stepped down from the governorship race in favour of another candidate, Okezie Ikpeazu. However, in an interview with Factnews recently, PDP chairman in the state, Emma Nwaka declined commenting on the issue refusing to give reasons for his refusal to speak. But further enquiries from some party membership revealed that a great majority of them did not want to speak on the issue because they did not want to be on the wrong side of the powers-that-be in the party.

When contacted to express how he felt about the whole development, Abaribe described the question posed to him as unfair. He said it (the question) did not reflect the issues at stake. Explaining, he told Factnewsonline that his statement at the weekend was in consonant with President Goodluck Jonathan's position that all serving Senators should be returned.

He said the President had taken the position to resolve "the insipient crisis in the party", which he adhered to because it presented a win-win situation for all concerned.

"We complied with the directive from the President, after all, the aspirant in question is my younger brother. so how else will I feel when it is a win-win for everybody" he asked.
