2023: Hon Edward Kalu Okocha formerly declares for Ohafia North State constituency election

In an enlarged and well attended Abiriba PDP stakeholders meeting which took place at the Umuahia residence of the Hon Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Hon Edward Kalu Okocha has declared his intention to contest for the Seat of Ohafia North State Constituency at the State House of Assembly and presented his Expression of interest and nomination form to the party leaders. 

 

In his declaration statement, Edward Promised to be a responsive, accessible and listening representative who will always be available for the job taking into account the enormous time demand of the office. 

 

"I have come to seek for the support of the leaders of our great party in Ohafia North to go and continue the representation of our people from where the incumbent will stop in 2023. With my experience at the State House of Assembly as a Senior legislative aide to the former Speaker of the 5th Legislative House, I know that to get the best out of the office as a Legislator and to attract all the opportunities available to your people, you must be available for the job and I promise to be available, responsive, accessible and a listening representative" 

 

He called on the party to consider going into the election with a fresh, young candidate with the education, experience, reach and general acceptability which he represents. He enumerated his commitment, consistency, loyalty and sacrifices for the growth of the party and pleaded with the leaders to see reasons to trust him with the position as he won't disappoint the constituents and party. 

 

Speaking earlier, the Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, described Edward as being imminently qualified in all ramifications to run for the office and also a good party man who has contributed immensely to the growth and successes of the party in Ohafia North and who also has made sacrifices that stood out in several occasions with reference to the last Chairmanship election which he contested and when a candidate emerged he wholeheartedly supported the candidate without rift or rancour. He charged the party leaders to give every aspirant a level playing ground and called on those aspiring from the constituency to avoid negative politicking as they are all of the same political family. 

 

Also speaking, the former Commissioner for Transport, Chief Barr Nnenna Obewu, described Edward as more of a son to her as she has known him for years and can attest to his ability and capabilities towards any given assignment. She encouraged the Aspirant to expand their consultation so as to win the support of all the delegates. 

 

Also speaking, the member Representing Aba central constituency at the State House of Assembly, Hon Chief Abraham Oba, described Edward as a worthy son whose ambition is in order. He assured the Aspirant and stakeholders present that the party will live up to expectation in harmonising the process. 

 

In their different remarks, Hon Nnanna Awo, Chief Kalu Udeagha, Chief Robert Ejemole, and Chief Chukwu Nwojo commended Edward Kalu for his courage, determination and commitment to service which informed his decision to present himself for the office. They adviced the Aspirant and others that will come after him to be open minded so as to embrace whoever that will emerge as the party‘s candidate after the primary election. They prayed God to help him and grant him his good desire which is to serve his people. 

 

Also present at the meeting includes the Member Representing Ohafia North state constituency at the State House of Assembly, Hon Mandela Egwuronu Obasi who had previously declared his intention to run, the Local government Chairman of Ohafia, Dr Okorafor Ukiwe, the Former Majority Leader of Abia state House of Assembly, Hon Tony Okoro, Hon Okoro Okeke, Hon Otah Odim, Chief Ndubuisi Eme, Hon Nwabueze Aru Ngama, Hon. Chris Nwokocha 

, Engr. Onwuka Azu, Hon Chief Ejibe Ogbuwa Kalu, Chief Sunday Ifeigbo , Mrs. Joy Ndukwo Mbonu, Ezinne Ada Obasi, Chief Nwojo Ijere, Chief Aru Kalu Aru, Hon. Nelly Onwuka, Kelvin Ezikpe Agbara, Chief Eme Ogba, Hon. Chris Nkuma, Hon Patience Ukariwo, Elder Uba Ina Obasi, Chief Robert Agwu Ejemole, Com. Paul Kalu. All the five Councillors from Abiriba and the five man Ward Executives from Ameke, Amogudu and Agborji wards of Ohafia North were also present.
