Abia Speaker Calls For Adequate Security for Health Workers in Nigeria

The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has called on Government at all levels to ensure that adequate security is provided for the Health Workers across the country.

The Speaker made this call today during the Biennial General Meeting (BGM) And Scientific Conference 2021 of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) FMC Umuahia Chapter held at Queen Elizabeth Chapel Hall, FMC Umuahia.

Speaking on the theme of the Conference,“SECURITY, INSECURITY & PROTECTION: Impact on Health Outcomes in Nigeria”, the Speaker argued that no Nation or State would succeed in the face of insecurity be in it Health, Education and in other areas. 

He called on the Federal Government to honour every agreement reached with the striking Residence Doctors to enable them go back to their duties of saving lives.

The Speaker also assured that the 7th Abia State House of Assembly under his watch would continue to make relevant laws as well as provide the necessary legislative framework that will see to the welfare and security of the health workers in the face of the current security challenges being witnessed across the country.

He also declared open the Biennial General Meeting & Scientific Conference of MDCAN which runs from today September 16th to 19th 2021 while wishing the Association a fruitful deliberation.

The Speaker was ably represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu at the event urged the Medical & Dental Consultants to always see their job/profession as a means of serving God and humanity, noting that God will never let them go unrewarded. 

The event had Prof. Gregory Ibeh (Represented by the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu) as the Chairman of the Opening Ceremony, Prof. BSC Uzochukwu (Keynote Speaker), Dr. Godswill Ogbonnaya Uko (MDCAN Chairman FMC Umuahia Chapter), Host, the Medical Director of FMC Umuahia, Prof. Azubuike K. Onyebuchi as Chief Host, the Permanent Secretary, Abia State Ministry of Health, Mrs Franca Ekwueme, Notable Medical & Dental Consultants, Heads of Security Agencies in the State and other invited guests in attendance.
