The Local Government Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, has adjourned to June 30th, 2021 for ruling on a petition brought before it by the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the last council polls held in the state.

After adoption of the written addresses by the counsels of both parties, chairman of the three man panel, Chief Magistrate Grade One Nnaemeka Orji adjourned the case to June 30th 2021 for ruling.

The APC candidate in the election, Kalu Mba, is praying the court to nullify the election held in the Local Government on the ground that there were alleged irregularities.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the adjournment of the matter, the Counsel for the People’s Democratic Party Dr. Hagler Okorie expressed optimism that the outcome of tribunal sitting will favor Dr. Okoroafor Ukiwe and the PDP, stressing that the petition brought before the court lacks merit.

“They fielded their first witness today, the petitioner alleged irregularities, we raised objections to the fact that they did not plead the voters card and we had to invalidate that voters card. It is the voters card that is the link between that witness and whatever he came here today to do…the law is explicit on this. The Supreme Court and the court of Appeal already decided on this that if you do not plead a document, you cannot rely on it”

“the pleadings of the petitioner has a disconnect from the reality and that we have also stated in our reply to the petitioner… we are hopeful of victory because the petitioner cannot prove their case,” Hagler said.

The case was adjourned to June 30th for ruling.
