African champions, Nigeria will be feted at a reception by Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan on 5 November.

The Super Falcons won the 2014 African Women's Championship (AWC) title last Saturday for a record seventh time after a 2-0 win over Cameroon in Windhoek, Namibia.

Receiving the trophy from the Super Falcons on Wednesday, President Jonathan promised to “host the girls” next week in recognition of their accomplishments in Namibia.

"I want to welcome you girls from Namibia for doing us proud and winning the trophy for a record seven times.

"You have done well and I promise that, as a nation, we will always celebrate you.

“I am only receiving this trophy from you today but I will host you girls on 5 November,” President Jonathan said on Wednesday.

Nigeria’s victory at the 2014 AWC means they are now one of three countries that will represent Africa at the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Cameroon and the Ivory Coast are the other two after South Africa lost out at the final hurdle.
