Reactions have continued to trail the outcome of yesterday's local government elections held in Delta State.

The ruling People's Democratic Party won in 21 Local Government Areas (LGA), which results have been announced so far, and in Patani LGA, a PDP candidate was returned unopposed.

Reacting to the results released, the Attorney-General (AG) of the State who is also the Commissioner for Justice, Charles Ajuyah, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) enthused, "it’s the wishes of the voters that has prevailed and in a free and fair poll, one cannot be less proud that a peaceful election was conducted".

Amidst jubilation, a frontline PDP governorship aspirant in the state, Obaisi Ovie Omo-Agege joyfully responded, "it’s a great day for PDP. Our victory across the state, most especially Delta Central has put a lie to the assertion by some interest who argued that Urhobos don't vote PDP. The results also clearly indicate that the 2011 presidential election results in Delta is no fluke".

Another governorship aspirant in the party, who hails from Delta North Senatorial District, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu described it as "the best council election ever". The opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) was feared to be making incursion into his Aniocha North LGA, but election results have rested such fears.

A former member of the Federal House of Representatives and Senatorial hopeful, Hon. Paschal Adigwe told Factnewsonline that it was a "resounding victory and a clear testimony of the supremacy of PDP over other parties. Yes, there could be minor skirmishes here and there but the victory is because PDP is deeply entrenched with all known political gladiators subscribing to the party".

One of the party's candidates who won the chairmanship of Aniocha South LGA, Chief Isaac Anwuzia said, "no other party has ever won the PDP in this Aniocha South since 1999 and  it can't happen now in my time"

As at the time of filing this report, no member of any of the opposition parties has responded to Factnewsonline inquiries on their perception of the results of the elections. However, the Delta state Vice-Chairman of the APC, Chief George Okafor had boasted to newsmen on the election day that his party had 100 per cent assurance of winning the council elections especially in Aniocha South. "The impunity of PDP is too much and the people are clamouring for change. Yesterday, 536 PDP members decamped to APC while 366 joined us from Labour Party. We are sure of winning this election" he had asserted.

Meanwhile, there are complaints and protests in some parts of the State. People from Ndokwa West LGA stormed Asaba immediately after the elections on Saturday to protest what they termed irregularities in the conduct of the elections. They accused the electoral umpire, Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) and security operatives of complicity in rigging the election in favour of the PDP.

More reactions are expected as the results are not yet complete.
