Semi Ajayi was named on the bench for Arsenal against Hull on Saturday, as Arsene Wenger struggled with defensive absentees.

Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny are both ruled out, while Calum Chambers' suspension meant Nacho Monreal started at the Emirates Stadium.

But the 21-year-old Nigerian was ready to feature should their have been any more injuries... so what do you need to know about the centre back?

More of an unearthed diamond, Ajayi has followed a similar route as Carl Jenkinson in progressing to a possible debut.

Signed from Charlton on a free transfer after a successful trial last year, the youngster slotted straight into the second string and impressed enough to join in first team training under Arsene Wenger.

Isaac Hayden, the Gunners' Under 21 captain, was expected to be on the bench or even start on Saturday, but is thought to have picked up a late injury.

A tall defender, but a player who is seen as one who needs to improve considerably, it is not yet clear how much Ajayi will feature this season, especially with the early Capital One Cup exit.

While Arsenal are struggling with defensive injuries, Ajayi should be knocking at the door to take his chance.
